It is with great sadness I have to announce the passing of our beloved Chairman Peter Lee.

Peter took over as Chairman from Stan Burton in November 2011, although he had been involved in the association for many years.

Peter worked tirelessly for athletics in the south holding the position of Hertfordshire CofSec since 2004. Peter was considered to be one of Hertfordshire’s legends as a top official, gentleman and friend. He was previously involved in the SEAA from its founding back in 1999. He also regularly attended the Tri Region selection meetings.

Chris Stott said that he regarded Peter as not only a valued colleague but also as a friend ever since they progressed together up the grades in the county, region and then nationally. Peter was always very competent and willing to go that that bit extra to assist with anything that was needed. Chris will miss him.

Those sentiments are echoed by everyone who knew him and he will be terribly missed.

On behalf of the Committee and membership, I am sending our love and thoughts to Jan and family at this very difficult time.

The South of England Athletics Officials’ Association exists to provide assistance and guidance to Technical Officials involved in running athletics meetings in the South of England and ad hoc training and support. With a General Committee, Discipline sub-committees and Regional Representatives we are also able to put the views of our members to the national bodies.

Membership

Membership is biennial from September in odd years, and this includes free attendance (& lunch) at two annual conferences with AGM, the UKA Rule Book (published biennially) and access to the Members’ Area (primarily historic documents). History

The inaugural meeting of the Southern Counties Officials Association, as it was originally called, was on Sunday 25th February 1990.  Brian Hart and Gerry Weston, with the support of the Southern Counties Athletic Association (now SEAA), were the prime movers in arranging this meeting.
